Chldren play a variety of active, novel, and fun games such as Islands, Beat the Ball, and Tater Tag for the younger players; Move the Mountain, Aruban Fieldball, and Partner Tag for the older ones.
For ages 3 to 6 Children play an assortment of developmentally-appropriate, non-sport games and learn the “basics behind the basics” – focusing, listening, taking cues from the environment, persevering, using memory, and developing appropriate social interaction skills.
We include Sport4All’s innovative “Make It and Take It Program”. Players actually make the objects that are incorporated into the games. The objects include Yarn Balls, Sock Balls, Trash Balls, Launch Boards, Jingle Jugs, Scoop Catchers, and Newspaper “Candlesticks”. Candelsticks may be used repeatedly as a balance wand, a T-Ball bat, a hockey stick and a golf club.
For ages 7 to 12 Children play a variety of non-sport games AND we encourage them to modify the games to make them more (or less) challenging and fun. In addition to playing the most enjoyable games they have ever played, we include training for GAMES Leadership – encouraging and enabling our players to teach the games they learn to their friends -- at school, during recess, at church picnics and at other social or neighborhood gatherings.
University youth development research reveals that most young people actually want to be leaders. And games leadership is the perfect way to catalyze future leadership development. Young people in this program will enjoy playing games and learning the skills to teach their friends what they have learned ---- a valued and life-long skill!
